Daydreaming about styling your home and picturing yourself relaxing on the patio is all part of the experience, but there are a few things to think about before diving in.
Budget
Setting your budget is a crucial first step. You need to know how much you can spend, and how much wiggle room you have. Fortunately, at Platinum Homes we can work with nearly any budget.
Your budget will be determined by how much you can put towards your deposit and how much you need to borrow. You may need an appointment with your bank or mortgage broker and to consider using your KiwiSaver.
Size
At Platinum we have house plans to suit every lifestyle, and you can narrow down the choices once you have a rough idea of what you are looking for. If you’re a family, think about what each family member needs and how different rooms will accommodate everyone. Maybe you’re a growing family – so you’ll want to carefully consider how many bedrooms you need.
Location
If you already have a section, we can build a new home for you there. Or maybe you have a large section that you want to subdivide so you can build another house on the newly created section. If you don’t have land already, a Platinum Homes house and land package may suit you – and could mean you’ll move in sooner.
Lifestyle
Your new home needs to suit your lifestyle, so it’s time to think about the areas of the house you’ll use the most. Do you like to cook? Do you entertain a lot and want a big patio space? Perhaps you need a hobby room, or an office so you can easily work from home. Remember, this house will be made to suit you and your family, think about what’s important to you and how it can be incorporated into your home.
Design
Now the fun begins. You get to choose wall colours, carpet, kitchen taps and lots of other features. Unleash your creative side when styling your home. Go for simplicity or use colour to brighten things up. If you’re not sure what to choose, the Platinum Homes team will be right beside you every step of the way and we have a specialist colour consultant on board to help create your vision.

As we move through 2026, interior design is shifting towards homes that feel warm, lived in and timeless.
Rather than picture perfect spaces, the focus is on comfort, layered textures and choices that stand the test of time.
Here’s what is shaping home design this year and how you can bring it into your own home.
Why Indoor Temperature Matters More Than You Think
We spend a lot of time at home, sleeping, relaxing, working. The temperature inside shapes not just comfort, but health. Living in a home that is too cold, too hot, or swings drastically in temperature can affect sleep, mood, energy, and even respiratory or cardiovascular wellbeing. Homes that maintain a stable, healthy temperature reduce illness, support better rest, and help people function at their best.
