If you’ve never built a new home – or – are unfamiliar with Platinum Homes and our products, then chances are, you will have questions. The below list provides the questions we get asked most often, accompanied by a short answer. Please remember however, nothing beats discussing your questions in person. It may be useful for you write any further questions down or highlight anything you don’t understand – then contact your local Platinum Homes showhome to make an appointment with one of our New Home Consultants who can provide more answers in more detail.

Platinum Homes do not offer a finance or lending service – but we have a great rapport with NewBuild who are specialists in financing the building of new homes. At your request, your Platinum Homes New Home Consultant can arrange an appointment for you with a representative from NewBuild. Just ask!
New homes are NOT subject to the same Reserve Bank lending restrictions as existing real estate. This means that it may be possible for you to build a new home with less than 20% deposit. However, every lending situation is different. Our advice is to ask your mortgage provider – or – we have a great rapport with NewBuild, who are specialists in financing the building of new homes. Your Platinum Homes New Home Consultant can arrange an appointment with a representative from NewBuild, who will answer your questions about deposits and repayment amounts.
Some people who are looking to build a new home may qualify to use some, or all, of their KiwiSaver to put towards the deposit. Our advice is to ask your mortgage provider – or – we have a great rapport with NewBuild who are specialists in financing the building of new homes. Your Platinum Homes New Home Consultant can arrange an appointment for you with a representative from NewBuild who will answer your questions about using KiwiSaver to put towards a new home.
All our homes are covered throughout the build process by a comprehensive third party construction policy ensuring your home is guaranteed to be finished. Simple as that. Furthermore, since 2003 Platinum Homes have handed over more than 2200 homes across New Zealand with a combined value exceeding $800,000,000 (…that is eight hundred million dollars) – to Kiwis like you!
Your Platinum Homes New Home Consultant will provide a comprehensive list of INCLUSIONS when they present to you a BUILDING CONTRACT. INCLUSIONS vary based on which Plan Series you are building. Generally, the following things are NOT included: window treatments, earthworks, landscaping, carpeting – but if you are not sure if something is included, just ask!
Usually, the answer will be no. Some customers believe they can save money by doing part of the construction work themselves – such as digging foundations. Or perhaps they just want to be closely involved. However, all construction work undertaken in a Platinum Home from the foundation up – MUST meet the Building Code and is subject to strict Health & Safety Laws. Doing your own work and failing to meet Building Code Compliance can be a significant and expensive mistake. Doing your own work and causing an accident could lead to serious injury and potential prosecution. So, please discuss this with your New Home Consultant.
Most likely, yes. Platinum Homes do partner up with a select group of architects to build special projects and bespoke homes. Contact your local Platinum Homes showhome and make an appointment to meet with a New Home Consultant to discuss how we may be able to help.
In addition to this, Platinum Homes has long-established relationships with a host of building material brands and specialist design and service suppliers. This list includes some of the biggest names in residential building.
The trades team that will construct your Platinum Home will consist of specialist contractors in flooring, building, roofing, plumbing, electrical work, decorating – and the list goes on. We work closely with our tradespeople to foster long-term relationships, ensuring consistent quality work throughout. Our qualified tradespeople are specifically selected for the high level of their worksmanship.
EARTHWORKS is a term used to cover any work that is required to be undertaken in preparing a section for the building of a new home. This may, or may not include: excavation, retaining walls, levelling of land, infilling and land stability work. The amount of required EARTHWORKS varies from home to home.
